Whispers @ midnight

I have ended my very happy, very busy week babysitting 'the cousins'.

They are about so high, 4 & 6, blond hair, brown eyes.

The 6 year old has a Scottish accent and likes to use big words. Even though he is unaware of their meaning and tends to place them in the most bizarre, if not slightly worrying phrases.

"Batman, Batman...Jess, do you like Batman?"
Yes. I do.
"But adults don't usually like Batman..."
Oh?
"you don't actually look like an adult"
hahah. what do you think I look like?
*looks up from his Lego set and observes me sitting on the sofa*
"A predator"
WHAT?!
"I don't know what that means, but it sounds big"

*ten minutes later*

I am sprawled on the couch reading a new book and 6 year old is snuggled under my arm watching youtube clips on his iPad.

"I like blood"
hmm.
"I drink blood"

*I very quickly move. to the other side of the room.*
Excuse me?
"because it doesn't really taste like....anything"
 Why were you drinking blood?
"I knocked my mouth and it filled with tasteless blood"
Oh.

***********************************************

I read books to the cute 4 year old before tucking him under his Superhero bed covers.

He's lying there, holding my hand and looking up at me with the biggest brown eyes. And my heart melts...

"Mumma always sings to me"

*dying on floor from his posh British accent*

I'll sing a lullaby I know, okay?

"I love you!"

awww, I love you too.

"I want to tell you a secret. Come closer. Closer. No! Get closer so I can whisper"

*dimpled fingers grab my face*

"I want to kiss you"

oh.

"On the lips"

You can kiss mummy and daddy when they get home. Not me.

"why not?"

Because I'm just the babysitter, not family.

" But I said I loved you"
